Crystal Perfection

 JEFF.JPG (64085 bytes)
Jeff Schlottman

Crystal Perfection sprang into existence over 16 years ago, as the logical extension of many years' interest in the mineral hobby. Like most enthusiasts, I too am a collector who enjoys his field trips, rock swaps, club associations, shows and general education pertaining to my interest. In my pursuits, I was always looking for the right specimen or perfect crystals (hence the name Crystal Perfection!).

Our goal is to obtain the highest quality specimens, at reasonable prices. Too often in my searches I've found great pieces, but the relative value is questionable at best. If I wouldn't pay the price to own the piece myself, you won't find it in our inventory!

Again, welcome and please feel free to contact us with questions or special requests - Jeff

Hartstein Fossils

Gene Hartstein                          Araucaria mirabilis, Jurassic, Argentina

Roughly 20 years ago I began to turn a hobby into a business. I had collected fossils since about 1968 and by the mid 1980’s began selling fossils that I had acquired by collection or trades over the years. I also began to buy fossils for resale.  Frequent relocations with my job had prevented me from setting up a full-scale business but in late 1994, my return to Delaware and the likelihood that this would be a permanent move afforded me the opportunity to start. Hartstein Fossils as a serious endeavor began shortly thereafter.

Most shows are staffed by my daughter Carissa and me (Gene) but some include my other daughter, Ivy and her husband Mike. We do about a dozen shows a year from Syracuse to Northern Virginia and west to Illinois. I do the furthest shows myself.

We offer a wide variety of quality fossils with respect to type as well as price range. We are always on the lookout for quality fossils and we will buy old collections as well as prepare a number of fossils in our own fossil prep lab.

I still collect fossils, particularly petrified wood, mammals, fishes and Mazon Creek Fossils.

Highland Rock & Fossil

Founded summer 1989 as 'The Orius Group', when I made the 'mistake' of first attending a gem and mineral show. A subscription to lapidary journal followed, and shortly thereafter I was buying collections and bankruptcy lots. Our first gem show as a dealer was August 1990 at the Lost Dutchman Gemboree.

Summer of 1995 the business focus shifted with the opening of a retail outlet in Highland Park, hence the renaming to 'Highland Rock & Fossil'. The store operated for 5 years, but was never nearly as successful as the show circuit or E-Bay auctions. The store was closed in 2000 to concentrate on shows, auctions, and private client work.

Currently, we do about 20 gem shows a year, including a booth at the February Tucson show. Most shows are local to the mid-Atlantic region. EBay auctions are run in the summers, and otherwise as time available.

Our concentration at first was on cabochon and carving materials. We still carry an excellent range of custom cabs, spheres, and carvings, but our emphasis has shifted to more finished goods. We are also well known for our fossil display, we sell everything from $1 fossil shells to complete dinosaurs and saber tooth cats.

Our customer base is primarily individual collectors, but we have several store and business accounts. We have also sold rare items to over 20 museums worldwide including Korea, Taiwan, England, Canada, and the Natural History Museum in NYC.

Principals: Richard Eisenman and Juan (Joanna) Chen Eisenman
