                     Worldwide Collecting

At Our Last Meeting: Monday, May 9, 2005

Program: Ed Rowse told us about world collecting!

[Eric Meier]

Program Review:  DMS Club Member Ed Rowse inspired us with stories of his travels to Peru and the Ukraine.  He highlighted the minerals of Cerro de Pasco, Peru, of Volodar Volynsk, Ukraine, and of
Searles Dry Lake in Trona, CA.

Ed has collected bornite, acanthite, sphalerite from Peru, and halides from California.  On a recent trip to the Ukraine, he was shown a local museum which housed a gigantic helidor crystal, approximately 10 feet in length!

His maps and stories illustrated to us how the hobby of rockhounding transcends borders, as there are folks willing to share all around the world.
