Program Review: Eric had invited Larry
Krause, collector and dealer (Octahedron Minerals, Baltimore, MD) to share with us his
collection. Larry recounted stories of how he began collecting, and reminisced with
us some about dealers of our past, such as Stan Lesnik.
He brought about 200 hundred specimens to both show and pass around.
Among his personal favorites are fluorites and calcites. Larry shared with us
extremely rare specimens that displayed unusual crystal habits--you don't even see some of
these in books!
Among these were Bohemian, Peruvian, and Mexican Aragonites, a
cuboctahedral galena, a 3" long hexagonal ruby crystal from India, and a green
petrified wood sample.
He roused our curiousity as to 'what is it' and 'how does this crystallize
in nature'. Thanks, Larry.
For those interested in contacting Larry, he will be a dealer at the
upcoming Goucher Show.
