He spoke on:
“How
to Dig Up A Giant Dinosaur”
Jason shared
with us his experiences excavating a huge sauropod dinosaur in southern
Patagonia, Argentina. The talk described the scientific, logistical and
paleontological details and techniques for this large-scale
excavation. He also talked about Patagonia and that desert like,
fossil-rich area.
Jason grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and earned both
his B.S. and M.S. in Geology from Auburn University in Alabama.
His M.S. thesis title is The teleost fish Enchodus
and the paleoceanography of Upper Cretaceous rock units in Alabama.
He
is presently a Ph.D. student in Paleontology at Drexel University
focusing on Late Cretaceous marine vertebrates in New Jersey, but is
still involved with their Southern Patagonia Dinosaur Project in
southern Argentina. He is also the Assistant Curator of Natural
History Education at the NJSM.
The DMS membership, friends, as
well as the general interested public, all ages (kids too!) were welcome
to attend. Our club meeting started at 7:30 and Jason’s talk
was
afterwards about 8:00.
